Foamtronic VFD system

Foamtronic VFD system

What is the FoamTronic VFD System?

FoamTronic VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) is an electronic foam proportioning system that accurately doses firefighting foam concentrate based on the actual extinguishing water requirements of the system. This is achieved by continuously monitoring the extinguishing water and foam concentrate flow rates using electromagnetic flowmeters and dynamic control of the foam concentrate pump.

The accuracy and stability of the system are based on a combination of specially selected components and a unique control system. The control system records all process values and alarms during operation or testing. These can be downloaded for diagnosis and data analysis.

An additional advantage is that there is no pressure loss in the firewater pipe. This means the firewater pipes can often be smaller than those used in conventional, mechanical foam proportioning systems.

The FoamTronic VFD is installed at the foam injection point, near the foam concentrate storage tank.

Annual testing without loss of firefighting foam concentrate

With FoamTronic VFD, system performance can be tested regularly without mixing extinguishing foam concentrate and water. This prevents environmental pollultion and unnecessary consumption of expensive extinguishing foam concentrate.

The FoamTronic test procedure is an exact simulation of actual conditions. During this test, the injection point to the firewater system is isolated. The water flow is started or simulated and the FoamTronic VFD system controls the mixing ratio. The back-pressure of the water is simulated during this test. The firefighting foam concentrate is diverted and pumped directly back into the foam concentrate storage tank.

This tests the full operation of the FoamTronic system without consuming extinguishing foam concentrate. The entire test procedure is therefore economical and environmentally friendly.

Accurate proportioning

Foam mixing system depend on the accuracy of the mixing ratio of foam concentrate to water.

The accuracy of the FoamTronic VFD is guaranteed by continuously measuring the extinguishing water and foam concentrate flows with electromagnetic flowmeters. The amount of foam concentrate is then regulated by controlling the speed of the pump.

One or two different mixing ratios can be preset in the FoamTronic. Depending on the signal that the system receives from the fire alarm control panel, the FoamTronic will inject foam concentrate using one of the preset mixing ratios.

Suitable for any type of firefighting foam concentrate

The FoamTronic VFD system works with any firefighting foam concentrate available on the market. This is regardless of the desired mixing ratio, viscosity or pseudoplastic properties of (PFAS-free) firefighting foam concentrates.

This makes it possible to change the firefighting foam concentrate at a later stage.

Reliability

Diagnosis

To guarantee reliability, the FoamTronic VFD features continuous signal monitoring and self-diagnosis of performance.

Thanks to the self-diagnostics, you can be confident that the system is fully operational and will activate when needed. If a malfunction does occur, the FoamTronic sends a fault signal to your system.

Battery backup

The FoamTronic VFD comes with a 24V battery backup system. This keeps the system online in the event of a power failure or outage. As a result, the system is immediately ready to mix as soon as the power supply is restord.

Redundancy

Two FoamTronic VFD systems can be linked in a redundant configuration.

If one system fails to function optimally, the other can take over seamlessly.

Options

HMI

The user-friendly interface is available via the optional HMI.
