    A combined pickling / hot strip galvanizing line in steel processing is a production line in which coils of rolled steel are cleaned with hydrochloric acid and then provided with a protective zinc layer. These lines are designed to improve the corrosion resistance of steel products, extending their service life. Wuppermann products are used in various industries, including construction, furniture, automotive, solar energy and transportation technology.

    Challenge

    Wupperman wants to protect a number of essential hydraulic units with a fire-fighting installation in the context of the continuity of their production process. It concerns hydraulic units that are set up in the basement, where the local fire brigade will not carry out any extinguishing due to the limited accessibility and the associated risks due to smoke and heat development during a fire.

    Approach

    After an accurate inventory with Wuppermann, it was decided to use high-pressure water mist as the extinguishing medium. The three rooms in the basement, with a total of six hydraulic units to be secured, are each equipped with a Fogtec high-pressure water mist installation and a fire control installation. Automatic flame detection has been chosen to control the high-pressure water mist installations. In addition, extinguishing activation buttons have been applied for manual activation. Divided over the 3 rooms, 6 extinguishing zones, the following components have been applied:

    • 10 water cylinders
    • 3 Kentec extinguishing control panels
    • 5 nitrogen propellant cylinders
    • 12 flame detectors
    • 5 distribution valves
    • 6 extinguishing activation buttons
    • 24 high pressure water mist nozzles
    • Optical and acoustic alarm devices
